A. We welcome early-in-career applicants! Check out the Nordstrom careers site for information about internships and associate roles: https://careers.nordstrom.com/#/student-center/main

Q. Are You Hiring?

A. We regularly have openings across our different disciplines, ranging from early-in-career to highly experienced. Search for “UX” on the Nordstrom career site https://careers.nordstrom.com to see what’s open now. You can also set up alerts on the career site so you can be notified of new openings.

Q. Where is the experience design (XD) Team Located?

A. We have a mix of hybrid and remote employees, with the main corporate office in Seattle and hubs in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Denver, and Atlanta.

Q. What Experiences does the Team Work On?

A. We are an omnichannel group that develop digital and physical experiences for web and app for both Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack. We work on everything from customer-facing experiences like checkout flows, to internal tools for stylists, to store tools like Point of Sale, to a foundational design system.

Q. how is the team organized?

A. Our UX designers, content designers, user researchers, experience strategists, and design operations team members are all part of the same Experience Design (XD) organization. The team is supported by discipline managers who report to the VP of Experience Design, and is made up of junior level team members all the way through to Senior Principal roles.

We take this approach for several reasons:

  • Ensure the team feels part of a larger design community and culture.

  • Sharing work across the team leads to creating more efficient, seamless experiences throughout our omnichannel approach (web, native apps, tools, and store).

  • Allow focus and ability to dive deep on work, yet still have flexibility to try new things.

  • Provide clear lines of leadership so our team members feel supported personally and in their career development, such as by offering parallel IC and people manager tracks in our XD career framework.

Q. how many team members are on a typical project?

A. Projects can vary in size and complexity, so staffing can range from one designer to a small team of 1-3 UX designers, 1-2 content designers, 1 user researcher and 1 design program manager. We evaluate each project to determine how many members and which roles best fit its needs.

Q. what tools do you use?

A. We use a combination of design tools to accomplish our work. As a hybrid team, Mural is integral for workshops and collaboration. When creating designs and prototypes, we primarily use Figma, alongside Storybook and real working code, or plain old paper. Which tools we use depends on our goals, and having this flexibility also ensures we can do our work as efficiently as possible.

For research we use a mix of online platforms such as UserTesting, Dscout, and Alchemer, as well as take advantage of our in-house usability labs.

Q. what teams do you partner with?

A. Our multi-disciplinary design "studio" works with business stakeholders including digital merchandising, marketing, and strategy/operations groups, data and analytics teams including customer research and data science, and technology partners such as product managers, technical program managers, and full-stack engineers.
